Why it matters
If your profile says you're open and someone rings or drives over on Boxing Day, they don't blame Google. They blame you, and sometimes they leave a review saying so. Google also asks customers whether a business is open, and wrong hours get flagged.
How to set them
- Search your business name on Google while signed in, or open your profile in Google Maps.
- Choose Edit profile, then Hours.
- Find Special hours and add the date.
- Mark it closed, or set the hours you will be open.
- Save. Your normal hours stay as they are.
Dates worth setting every year
- Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
- Your own shutdown period over the break.
- Good Friday, Easter Monday and Anzac Day.
- Your state's own public holidays, which differ across Australia.
- Any day you're shut for training, a funeral or a family event.
If you do emergency work
If you take emergency calls on public holidays, say so. Set the hours you'll answer rather than marking the day closed. For a plumber or electrician, being one of the few open on a public holiday is worth a lot.
Google may prompt you
Before big holidays Google often asks business owners to confirm their hours. Answer it. A confirmed profile is one less thing for a customer to get wrong.
Rather not do this yourself? Our Google Business Profile management handles the profile, the posts and the reviews every week, for one monthly fee.
