What it does
Google can usually work out your details from the page itself. Schema removes the guesswork. It states your business name, address, phone, hours and the type of business plainly, so Google doesn't have to infer them.
What to include
- The most specific business type that fits, like Plumber or Electrician, rather than a generic one.
- Name, phone and address exactly as they appear on your Google Business Profile.
- Opening hours.
- Your website address and logo.
- The areas you serve, if you're a service-area business.
What to leave out
Don't add star rating markup for your own reviews. Google's review snippet guidelines don't support self-serving reviews for local businesses, so marking up your own rating won't show stars and isn't worth the risk. Show your reviews on the page as normal content instead.
How to check yours
- Go to Google's Rich Results Test.
- Enter your home page address.
- Look for a LocalBusiness or similar result in what it detects.
- Fix any errors it lists.
Does it help ranking?
It's not a big ranking lever on its own. It helps Google understand your details clearly and consistently, which supports everything else. It's a one-off job, so it's worth doing properly once.
