How to get more leads for your painting business

Most painters asking how to get more leads for my painting business are quoting plenty but winning too few. The lead problem is often a trust problem, and the fixes are cheap.

Real estate and rental repaints

Houses going to market and rentals between tenants need fast, tidy repaints. Agents and property managers want a painter who can start quickly and finish on the date they said. Win one agency and you can be busy through winter.

Strata and body corporates

Apartment blocks and townhouse complexes need repaints on a cycle, and strata managers handle many buildings at once. It's slower to win, but a single strata relationship can be years of work.

Photos that win quotes

Customers can't judge a painter by talking to one. They judge by photos: crisp cut lines, clean ceilings, tidy sites. Take close-ups as well as wide shots, and add the suburb. Put them on your Google profile and on a page for each type of job.

Turn one house into the street

Exterior jobs are seen by every neighbour. A sign out the front while you work and a short note in nearby letterboxes when you finish turns one house into three quotes. Older streets often repaint around the same time.

Quote follow-up

  • Send the quote the same day or the next.
  • List what's included: prep, coats, the paint you use, clean-up.
  • Follow up once after a few days, politely.
  • Ask why when you lose a quote. The answers are free market research.

Google, the right way

List interior, exterior, roof, render and commercial painting as separate services on your profile, and keep reviews coming. If you run ads, exclude paint brand and DIY searches, and lean on interior work in the wet months.

Rather not do this yourself? Our Google Business Profile management handles the profile, the posts and the reviews every week, for one monthly fee.

Questions

Straight answers.

How do painters get more work?

Real estate and rental repaints, strata contracts, strong photos of finished work, and using every exterior job to win the neighbours.

Why am I quoting a lot but not winning?

Usually slow quotes, vague quotes or no proof of work. A fast, itemised quote with real photos wins more.

Is Google Ads good for painters?

Yes, for interior and exterior house painting in a set area, with paint product and DIY searches excluded.
